Storm Brings High-Speed Internet to Rockland
Rockland, ON. June 17, 2002 - Storm Internet Services
(Storm) a wholly owned subsidiary of International Datacasting
Corporation, today announced that they have introduced high-speed
Internet service to Rockland and surrounding area. The announcement
was made at a demonstration launching the service in the Jean-Marc
Lalonde Arena attended by Mayor Jean Pierre Pierre of Clarence-Rockland
& Jean-Marc Lalonde MPP . The service provides service at
speeds up to 2 Mb/sec for residential use and 5 Mb/sec for
business use.
Mayor Pierre commented "There is a huge demand for this service
from both home and business users. The business community
has been very active in helping me work with Storm to bring
the service into this area. Jean-Marc has supported my efforts
from the start and I am very pleased that we are here today.
What this means to Rockland is that we can compete on an equal
footing with Ottawa, our residents will not have to move into
the city to enjoy the same benefits of high-speed Internet."
"We have worked very closely with Mayor Pierre to make this
event happen" said Mr. Lalonde "I believe that with this introduction
of service in Rockland from Storm, I am now the MPP with the
most highly connected rural/urban riding in Canada. High-speed
Internet will not only attract new business but will help
us hold on to existing business. For the home user this will
help with tele-working, education and lifestyle choices."
Daniel
Lajeunesse, EVP & CTO of Storm commented that "It was a real
pleasure working with Mayor Pierre and his team. They really
worked hard to get everything in place to make this happen.
This will be the seventh node that we open with Mr. Lalonde
in Glengarry-Prescott-Russell with two (and possibly three
) more to come because he truly understands the need for real
high-speed service. This part of Eastern Ontario is now extremely
well served and we continue to look for other areas where
we can work with local government to provide high-quality
cost-effective service to the community."
