Storm Internet Extends Partnership with Fibre Utility
Storm Enters Three Year Fibre Partnership Deal with Telecom Ottawa
Ottawa, ON. March 6, 2003 - Today Storm Internet announced it has entered a three year partnership with Telecom Ottawa for ultra high-speed backbone network access throughout the Ottawa-Carleton region. This partnership helps Storm continue to connect rural and urban clients throughout the region and build off the already more than 35,000 square kilometers of coverage area for its high-speed wireless service.
"In line with our recently announced Internet Freedom(tm) campaign, Storm continues to work closely with its partners in providing infrastructure to rural 'last mile' communities," said Barry Williams, CEO Storm Internet. "This provides clients in our coverage area the freedom to choose from a full gamut of Internet services."
Through a business partnership with Telecom Ottawa, Storm Internet has recently connected several of its networks using the Telecom Ottawa backbone. This allows Storm to reinvest and redeploy its wireless technology to rural areas so Storm can increase its coverage area while connecting more businesses and communities with broadband Internet in an affordable and easily manageable business model.
"Our ongoing relationship with Telecom Ottawa helps us connect communities and municipalities in rural Ontario with high-speed wireless technology" said Williams. "As we grow our coverage area by investing in our network, Telecom Ottawa provides us with access to a cost effective, flexible and robust fibre network."
"The City of Ottawa's Broadband Plan outlines the vision of affordable broadband. The services offered by this partnership are critical for rural and urban business to compete on a level playing field and to maintain the vitality of Ottawa's rural lifestyle", said Mayor Bob Chiarelli.
Councilor Glen Brooks, Chairman of ORCNet said, "As we demonstrated in North Gower and in Kinburn, when parties work together, many people benefit. Storm has been instrumental in bringing high speed Internet to many of the rural areas of the City of Ottawa."
"By leveraging the strength of the Telecom Ottawa all optical backbone network, companies like Storm can greatly increase their network reach and capacity." said Dave Dobbin, Executive Vice President of Telecom Ottawa. "This partnership demonstrates, once again, that the Telecom Ottawa carrier's carrier philosophy is effective for all involved including Carriers, Telecom Ottawa and most importantly, customers."
