Township of Winchester Gets HighSpeed Internet Together with Storm Internet and
Nestlé Canada
Unique Private Partnership Brings Broadband to Chesterville and Surrounding Areas
OTTAWA, ON, October 20, 2004
- Storm Internet Services, Inc. ("Storm") and Nestlé Canada ("Nestle") have brought HighSpeed Wireless Internet to the Township of Chesterville, Ontario, through a uniquely formed private partnership. Local businesses and residents now have access to Storm's Highspeed Wireless Internet, and other services, as a result of a distribution node now located on top of the Nestlé Factory in Chesterville, ON.
"For over the past year or so we have had requests from Chesterville residents for Highspeed connectivity, however, our growth plans were continually hampered due to the limited rural infrastructure available for providing broadband Internet," said Barry Williams, President of Storm Internet. "Fortunately, the team at the Nestlé factory in Chesterville came up with a solution, and a much appreciated contribution, that directly benefits local residents and businesses."
"We have greatly enjoyed working with Nestlé, on this particular project, and we look forward to the long term relationship we have started to build," said Williams.
The Storm Wireless "Nestle Node" is located on the roof of the Nestlé Factory and offers direct non-line-of-site ("NLOS") HighSpeed Internet to businesses and residents located in an 8km radius of the node. The 900 Mhz technology Storm uses to deliver HighSpeed Wireless Internet to a client's local area network or personal computer was developed by Storm. Operating in the license-exempt 900 Mhz spectrum, Storm's 900 Mhz design enables NLOS connections, which allows Storm to expand its network in areas where the terrain, trees or buildings prevent direct line-of-sight connections. This NLOS system includes a wireless modem (radio) and an indoor or outdoor antenna that can be installed by the subscriber or quickly and easily installed by a professional installer.
